I had a revelation yesterday, and that revelation was this: the editor from Bantam to whom I pitched Faerie Blood and Lament of the Dove had given me an actual business card at Writer's Weekend. That business card has her email address on it. It therefore occurred to me that I could in fact email her about whether her office had safely received my partials.

I pinged [livejournal.com profile] mizkit to inquire whether this was kosher, and the Redoubtable Kit opined that if she had indeed given me a business card with an email address, then yes, it was kosher to use it. So I whipped up an email, being careful to write it in proper business letter format and keeping it very short and sweet, reminding her of who I was and what I had pitched, stating that as per her request I'd sent her the partials in early July, and inquiring whether they had safely arrived. And thanking her for her time and attention. The thanks is important. Don't know if I'll get an actual reply, but here's hoping! I'll give a while yet, now, before I try a paper query.

Meanwhile, things are getting more normal again at the Murkworks as [livejournal.com profile] solarbird continues to improve. She was very proud of making it down to our mailbox yesterday, though it was a tiring effort! We're trying to get back to our normal schedules now, though we have yet to clear Dara's hospital bouquets off the kitchen table so we can have proper sit-down dinners again. So things are still just a little bit weird. ;)

Pictures from the GBS show at Bumbershoot are starting to show up in a swath on the OKP. Quite a few nice ones are here, but the ones that amuse me are here. Specifically, the first one in the second row on that page, the crowd shot. If you look right about in the middle of the crowd, you can see a blonde chick with a ponytail and a red and blue hat!

Today is actually Wednesday, and I have to remind myself of this because it feels very much like Tuesday. Except that yesterday was Tuesday, which I know because I had my Tuesday meetings yesterday. Very disorienting, and I can tell my brain still isn't back quite to normal yet since I totally forgot to bring my handheld computer in with me today. Foo. But at least I have a lunch outing to look forward to with a couple of former teammates from Real; we're thinking of going to the pub near to the Times. Which will be neat, since I've never been in there.

I have started reading Jane Lindskold's The Buried Pyramid, and am anxious to get me to a bookstore to pick up [livejournal.com profile] rachelcaine's Firestorm! Hoping to do that tonight.

Last but not least, I have picked up a couple more new readers, so everybody should say hi now to [livejournal.com profile] miladygrey and [livejournal.com profile] urbanbluesky! Welcome!

Lots of luck! I've yet to actually pitch my book to someone who can actually do anything with it, but I'm very close. Look for more news soon!

Being of a whole different generation than yourself, I must admit that every time I see "GBS" in your posts I think of George Bernard Shaw and wonder for a moment "WTF?"

Hope the e-mail pans out for you! I do that kind of thing all the time, though it's usually a phone number I have and don't realize it because I do so much of my communicating by e-mail :D

I've added you, after seeing your review on the OKP, I hope you don't mind!

It's generally considered acceptable to contact a publisher about a book after a certain period with no word (which includes not getting the MS back). Exactly what the period is depends on who you ask. :-)

Seriously, there's no hard and fast rule; just keep in mind that getting a book published is very time consuming, even when the publisher is enthusiastic about the work.
